Famous Gond Painting Artisans
Jangarh Singh Shyam
The undisputed Father of modern Gond art. First Adivasi artist to achieve major national and international acclaim. His 1988 painting Landscape with Spider sold for $31,250 at a Sotheby’s Auction. He painted the famous dome of Bharat Bhavan in Bhopal.
Bhajju Shyam
One of the most internationally recognized living Gond artists. Known globally for his brilliant illustrated book, The London Jungle Book. Awarded the prestigious Padma Shri by the Indian government for his art.
Durgabai Vyam
Famous for her storytelling skills and vivid illustrations of community folklore. Co-illustrated Bhimayana, a highly celebrated graphic novel about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and awarded Padma Shri by the Government of India for her contributions in the field of arts.
Venkat Raman Singh Shyam
A nephew of Jangarh Singh Shyam who integrated highly contemporary themes. Blends traditional Gond motifs with complex, political, and modern stories. Co-authored and illustrated the acclaimed graphic autobiography Finding My Way.

Patangarh, a tribal village in Madhya Pradesh, is the heartland of Gond art and home to the renowned Pardhan Gond community.
